Delhi: Former Team India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has advised the team management to take a big and bold step before the final of T20 World Cup 2026. Kaif believes that the Indian team, which is struggling with poor form, should not make Abhishek Sharma a part of the playing 11 in the final match against New Zealand.
Let us tell you that this title match between India and New Zealand is to be played on March 8 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both the teams are just one step away from becoming champions.
Kaif says that the team management led by head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav should not hesitate in making changes in the playing 11 for such an important match.
The performance of stylish left-handed batsman Abhishek in the tenth season of the T20 World Cup has been quite shameful. He has been able to cross the fifty run mark only once in 7 innings. In the tournament, he has been seen continuously struggling against the spinners. The opposing teams are hunting Abhishek by putting spinners on the attack in the powerplay itself.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif said that Abhishek has been given a lot of opportunities by the team management. Now there is no harm in making changes in the playing 11. This happens often in T20 format. West Indies also gave a chance to Roston Chase by replacing out-of-form Brandon King. Brandon had flopped in 5-6 consecutive matches. For this reason, West Indies thought it better to give him rest in the big match (against India). I believe that just like you brought Sanju Samson and he did a great job, a similar change can go in your favor.
Continuing his point, Kaif further said that India has many such players who have proved themselves. Rinku Singh is in great form and he scores runs everywhere, be it Test, Ranji Trophy or IPL. A look at the dugout shows that Rinku is the best replacement for Abhishek. Abhishek is struggling and still remains in the team, while in-form batsman Rinku is sitting out.
