Jasprit Bumrah was magnificent with the ball and dismissed England captain Harry Brook in the second semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He surpassed legendary Glenn McGrath in the list of elite bowlers. Axar Patel took a sensational catch of Brook to give Bumrah his only wicket of the match.
The Indian speedster was the only bowler from both teams to record an economy of less than nine as he registered figures of 1-33 in four overs as India secured a seven-run win to qualify for the final, where they will take on New Zealand on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
With Brook’s dismissal, Bumrah completed 500 wickets in international cricket. He has taken 234 Test wickets while he has sent back 117 batters in T20Is. He has picked up 149 scalps in one-day internationals.
Bumrah is the 44th bowler to take over 500 wickets across all formats in international cricket. No one has a better average than the Indian fast bowler. The 32-year-old broke Glenn McGrath’s record.

Bumrah’s strike rate of 33.2 is the second best, with Lasith Malinga (546 wickets at 32.8) ahead of him. Malinga’s average was 28.08, which is far behind Bumrah. McGrath (44.5) is not even close to Bumrah.
Meanwhile, Sanju Samson was named the Player of the Match for scoring 89 runs, but the opening batter was not satisfied with the decision as he felt Bumrah was the most deserving candidate for the award.
