The Indian men’s cricket team entered its name in the history books on Thursday (March 5) by breaking the world record of hitting the most sixes by a team in a T20I series/tournament. In the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Indian batters have hammered a total of 88 sixes so far. The previous record of scoring the most sixes by a team in a T20I series is in the name of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian batters hammered 78 sixes in the tri-series against Gibraltar and Turkey in July 2025.

In the list of teams with the most sixes in a T20I series, India and Bulgaria are followed by West Indies, South Africa and the Philippines.

For India, Sanju Samson has hammered 16 sixes in the T20 World Cup 2026, and Shivam Dube has 15 maximums to his credit.
Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya have played all eight matches so far for the Men in Blue and have 14 sixes each to their name, whereas young Tilak Varma and captain Suryakumar Yadav have smashed 11 and 10 sixes, respectively.

Samson played a knock of 89 runs from 42 balls for India in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Thursday in Mumbai and hammered 8 fours and 7 sixes during his stay at the crease.
In India’s last Super 8s match against the West Indies at Eden Gardens on Sunday, he remained unbeaten on 97 runs from 50 balls with the help of 12 fours and 4 sixes.

A total of 16 sixes by Samson in the T20 World Cup 2026 is the most by an Indian batter in one edition of the T20 World Cup. He broke Rohit Sharma’s record.
