Indian batters were magnificent in the second semi-final against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The defending champions posted 253/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Sanju Samson was the top-scorer for the Men in Blue, amassing 89 runs off 42 balls, laced with 8 boundaries and 7 sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 211.90. He added important runs with Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dube.
The co-host started their innings on the back foot, with Abhishek Sharma managing 9 runs in 7 deliveries. Samson and Kishan didn’t allow the English bowlers to settle down, with the latter contributing 39 runs in 18 deliveries, including 4 fours and 2 maximums. Dube was promoted in the batting order to tackle Will Jacks and Adil Rashid, and the move paid off as the left-handed willow holder accumulated 25-ball 43 runs, laced with 4 sixes and 1 four.
England managed to pull things back from the 15th over, with India losing a few wickets. Captain Suryakumar Yadav, who demoted himself, was undone on a personal score of 11 runs in 6 deliveries, with the batter hitting just 1 six. Dube was run out in a horrible mix-up with all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who called his partner for a run and then refused.
Hardik issued an apology to Shivam. Pandya (27 off 12) and Tilak Varma (21 off 7) provided the finishing touched.
Hardik smashed three boundaries and 2 sixes while Tilak hit 3 sixes. For England, Will Jacks and Adil Rashid dismissed two batters each.
Earlier, Harry Brook dropped Samson’s catch when he was on 15 runs, and the mistake proved costly for the two-time champions.
