Delhi: After the poor performance of the Afghanistan team in the T20 World Cup, a big decision has been taken by the board. Rashid Khan has been removed from the post of captaincy and in his place opener batsman Ibrahim Zadran has been given the command of the T20I team, who has previously been seen in the role of vice-captain in the team.

Let us tell you that the team’s performance during Rashid’s tenure was commendable. Under his leadership, Afghanistan had reached the semi-finals in the T20 World Cup in 2024. However, in the current T20 World Cup, the team could not reach the Super-8.

Rashid Khan was removed from captaincy

Afghanistan Cricket Board has taken this big decision in the interest of the team. The board’s chief selector, Ahmed Shah Sulemankhil, said that this decision is part of a larger effort to rebuild the leadership of the team, as our team is now preparing for the global tournament.

In his statement Sulemankhil said,

‘Rashid Khan brought great success to the team during his tenure as T20I captain. In line with our future strategic vision and recent changes in team management, we have decided to change the leadership in the T20I setup.

Meanwhile, Sulemankhil expressed his gratitude to Rashid for his contribution and said that the board hopes that Zadran will lead the team in the next phase. Zadran’s tenure will start from the upcoming T20 series against Sri Lanka.

Afghan team will face Sri Lanka this month

Let us tell you that the Afghan team is going to face Sri Lanka this month. Both the teams will face each other in an ODI series of 3 T20 and the same number of matches. The T20 series will start with the match to be played in Sharjah on March 13.

Whereas, the second and third T20 are to be held on March 15 and 17 respectively. Hashmatullah Shahidi will take command of the team in the ODI series, which will start from March 20. The remaining two matches will be played on 22 and 25 March.

Rehmanullah Gurbaz (wicketkeeper), Ibrahim Zadran (captain), Noor Rehman (wicketkeeper), Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, Shahidullah Kamal, Azmatullah Umarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Mujeeb Ur Rehman, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed, Zia Ur Rehman Sharifi, Farid Ahmed Malik and Abdullah Ahmedzai.

Reserve Players: Nangyal Kharoti, Bilal Sami and Ijaz Ahmedzai.
