Sanju Samson hit an unbeaten 97 against West Indies in India’s must-win Super 8 game on Sunday, March 1, to help his side secure a place in the T20 World Cup semi-finals. For his heroic efforts with the bat, the right-handed batter picked up the Player of the Match award.
The 31-year-old dialled her wife right after his match-winning innings but was unable to get in touch.
“No messages! Calling the wife, the Boss! It never connects,” said Samson after a failed attempt to reach out to his wife.
However, after collecting his Player of the Match medal, Samson pulled out his phone from his socks and video called his wife, Charulatha Samson, to share the post-game emotions.
In a heartwarming moment, his wife did not know that she was being filmed by the media, and later gave a huge smile and posed to celebrate the moment once she found out that she was being recorded.

Sanju Samson takes India home
Samson played only his third game in this year’s T20 World Cup. The former Rajasthan Royals skipper, however, grabbed the opportunity with both hands to score an unbeaten 97 to take his side home.
The destructive opening batter scored at an incredible strike-rate of 194, in an innings that included 12 fours and four sixes.
Samson also took the gloves in the game against West Indies and took two crucial catches to dismiss Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, respectively.
India will now travel to Mumbai to face England for a third consecutive time in a T20 World Cup semi-final on Thursday, March 5. The Men in Blue would be hoping for a repeat of the performance they put in back in 2024 where they defeated Jos Buttler’s side by 68 runs in Guyana.
