IND vs WI, T20 World Cup 2026: Team India settled the old scores after 10 years and that too in the same manner in which they had broken their hearts in 2016. Such moments rarely come in the history of cricket when luck and hard work come together to create history. In the T20 World Cup 2026, India registered a memorable victory against West Indies, which was not only a ticket to reach the semi-finals, but also proved to be the revenge of a decade old memories.
In fact, in the second semi-final of the 2016 T20 World Cup, India had to face defeat against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Then India, batting first, scored a strong score of 192 runs in 20 overs. But chasing the target, West Indies won the match by scoring 196 in 19.4 overs and that defeat broke the heart of the entire country. West Indies defeated India and made it to the finals and later won the title as well.
Now after 10 years, Team India responded to West Indies in the same manner. India and West Indies were face to face again at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in the Super-8 stage of the 2026 T20 World Cup. This match was do or die for India. Batting first, West Indies made a big score of 195 in 20 overs. But this time the story was different. India needed exactly 196 runs to win, the same number which West Indies had scored to oust India in 2016. But this time Team India scored 199 in 19.2 overs and won by 5 wickets. This was one of India's biggest successful chases so far in the T20 World Cup and also healed a 10-year-old wound. The hero of this victory was Sanju Samson, who scored unbeaten 97 runs.
In 2016, West Indies had defeated India by scoring 196 runs, and in 2026, India showed the way out to West Indies by achieving the target of exactly the same number of runs. After which slogans of 'Vande Mataram' and 'Lehra Do' echoed in the stadium, laser lights and fireworks made the atmosphere more exciting. There was a wave of joy in the Indian dugout, and the fans celebrated this historic moment. Now Team India will face England in the semi-finals.
