Virat Kohli has been in sensational form in the Indian Premier League 2024. The veteran struck 92 runs off 47 balls against Punjab Kings and settled the debate on his strike rate. Several former players want Virat to open the innings with Rohit Sharma and the idea was backed by Sourav Ganguly.
However, former Australia legend Matthew Hayden have made two different statements.
He had once stated that India should keep Virat at the no.3 slot while opening with Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal. According to him, the right-left combination is important.
In conversation with his daughter and Star Sports presenter Grace Hayden on Friday, he backtracked from his earlier remark.
He is in favour of Rohit batting at the no.4 slot in the T20 World Cup. Hayden thinks Virat should be promoted in the batting order as an opener along with Jaiswal.
“I would be happy if India open with Virat and Jaiswal. You can keep Suryakumar Yadav at the no.3 slot and Rohit coming in next in the order. Virat is a master in the powerplay overs and then Rohit can take over after fielding restrictions are lifted. Rohit has a good track record at the no.4 slot.”
