Alyssa Healy, the Australian skipper, signed off in style with a magnificent century at Bellerive Oval in her final ODI appearance. From the commentary box, her husband, Mitchell Starc, applauded her stunning achievement as Healy raised her bat for the last time in the 50-over format.
Heading into the third ODI against India, Australia had already clinched the series with a 2-0 lead. Looking to complete a clean sweep, their captain provided the team with an ideal start. After India opted to field, Healy stepped out to a warm reception, with the Indian players giving her a guard of honour for her contributions to the sport.
Healy reached her half-century off just 49 balls. Partnering with Georgia Voll, she built a crucial partnership after the early loss of Phoebe Litchfield. Australia crossed 100 runs in the 16th over, with Healy finding gaps in the field with ease. Her century came in only 79 balls, including 18 boundaries, marking her eighth ODI hundred and third against India. As Healy raised her bat, Starc was seen clapping from the commentary box, proud of her monumental achievement.
After reaching her century, Healy pressed the attacking button, moving from 101 to 150 in just 16 balls without playing a dot ball. She dismantled the Indian bowling attack, and by the 34th over, Australia were sitting comfortably at 256/2, with Healy on 146 and Beth Mooney offering strong support at the other end.
Healy’s stunning knock came to a close at 158 off 98 balls, marking her second-highest ODI score, as she was caught while attempting a reverse shot off Sneh Rana. The third umpire reviewed the delivery, but it was ruled legal. The crowd in Hobart gave Healy a standing ovation as she walked off the field. Australia scored 409/7 in their allotted 50 overs.
