MS Dhoni promoted himself in the batting order in the GT vs CSK match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He was welcomed by fans after the veteran came out to replace Shivam Dube. CSK were already out of the game but the supporters wanted to see Dhoni smashing the ball for fours and sixes.
He faced 11 balls against GT and hit three sixes. Dhoni hit a one-handed six on Mohit Sharma’s ball. The first two balls of Rashid Khan’s over were dispatched in to the stands. The first one was a helicopter shot. Rashid dragged the next ball down and Dhoni again got the desired result.
The third ball hit MS Dhoni’s pad and the stand-in captain Rahul Tewatia decided to take a DRS after the on-field gave the batter not-out. When the replays were being shown on the big screen, a fan breached the security cover and managed to touch the legendary cricketer’s feet.
The next two balls were dots but Dhoni hit a boundary on the last delivery of the game to remain unbeaten on 26 off 11. CSK fell short by 40 runs.
Earlier, Shubman Gill (104) and Sai Sudharsan (103) struck hundreds to take GT’s total to 231/3 in 20 overs.
Daryl Mitchell (63) and Moeen Ali (56) tried their best for Chennai but their dismissals put the team out of the contest. Mohit Sharma took three wickets for Gujarat.
Chennai remained in the fourth spot in the points table and need to win their remaining two matches to make it to the playoffs.
