Now the equation has changed with the win against Zimbabwe and the next three matches have to be won. Why can’t we win?

On 26th February, South Africa defeated West Indies, almost eliminating the threat of low NRR for India and it proved to be such a tonic for Team India that they batted amazingly. How the inclination of cricket lovers changes was also seen on this very day, when South African bowlers were taking wickets of India in Ahmedabad, there was silence in the stadium, when the same South African bowlers were taking wickets of West Indies, the crowd present in the same Ahmedabad stadium was now cheering them.

So now the new equation is that the match between India and West Indies on March 1 is the most special match in the race for the semi-finals. For this, Team India changed both the team and the game. The Sanju Samson-Abhishek Sharma opening partnership returned and both of them did what the team expected from them. Even though Samson scored 24 runs but in only 15 balls, it was clearly visible that he was not playing for his record but for the needs of the team.

No one batted for his number in the team’s two 50s, one 40, two 30s and a quick 24. Everyone took risks considering the good start and long batting order. The lowest strike rate was 158.33 and the highest was 275. Wonder why they waited for the alarm to ring for this kind of batting? This innings looked like a practice session.

Note one more thing. Ever since the Zimbabwe team came to India after playing well in their matches in Sri Lanka, it seems that their bowlers are not liking the pitch here. The average score against Zimbabwe in Super 8 is now 255. If they had played their Super 8 matches in Sri Lanka, perhaps their performance would have been better. West Indies batsmen took advantage of the short-bounded Wankhede Stadium and scored 254 runs in 20 overs against Zimbabwe and now India have scored 256 runs. Changes in the nature of the pitch as well as fielding mistakes also did not help them. Zimbabwe’s head coach Justin Simmons was confident that when Indian batsmen tried to hit big shots on the big field of Chepauk, they would be out even on mishits. It did not happen.

However, in terms of strategy, despite losing to Zimbabwe, Team India made a mistake. * South Africa is on top in the record of highest 200+ team total in T20 World Cup by showing this performance 6 times. India (5) is now at second place.

* ICC claims that tickets for T20 World Cup matches in India are being sold only online. Even then many had physical tickets for the Chennai match. Where did these come from? Some said that these tickets are from reserve category. This is injustice to a common cricket lover. ICC has not said anything about this ‘reserve’ facility.
