South Africa’s experienced batsman David Miller performed brilliantly against India on Sunday, defeating India by 76 runs in the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup. After the match, Miller described the Indian team as excellent but also said that they can be defeated, they just need to keep their performance simple and work in their lane under pressure.
India’s 18-match winning streak, which was running in ICC events, was broken in this match. India faced defeat for the first time after losing to Australia in the final of the 2023 World Cup. “India is a great team, but our team won the match in a very simple manner. We are a mature team and we know how to perform under pressure,” Miller said.
Miller praised South Africa’s bowlers, who executed their plans correctly against India’s dangerous batting line-up. Speedster Lungi Ngidi and veteran spinner Keshav Maharaj bowled brilliantly with the slower balls, troubling India’s batsmen.
Ngidi showed excellent pace changes in the match. He bowled at an excellent economy rate (3.80) conceding only 15 runs in 4 overs. At the same time, in a major change, Maharaj took three wickets in 6 balls in the third over. He turned the match around by dismissing Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh and Arshdeep Singh.
“It was tough, but the bowlers planned well. Lungi Ngidi did a good job with the slower balls and Keshav Maharaj also bowled perfectly according to the conditions,” Miller said.
South Africa batted first and scored 187/7. Miller scored 63 runs, while Dewald Brewis played a brilliant inning of 45 runs. Tristan Stubbs played a quick inning of 44 runs.
Arshdeep Singh (2/28), Jasprit Bumrah (3/15), Varun Chakraborty (1/47) and Shivam Dubey (1/32) were the wicket-taking bowlers for India. None of the Indian batsmen could score a half-century. Shivam Dubey played the top score of 42 runs, but South Africa’s bowlers bowled out India for 111 runs and won by 76 runs.
South Africa’s bowlers were Aiden Markram (1/5), Marco Jansen (4/22), Keshav Maharaj (3/24) and Corbin Bosch (2/12).
