Ahmedabad: India suffered a crushing defeat by 76 runs at the hands of South Africa in the Super-8 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 played on 22 February. After this defeat, Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav gave his reaction and discussed the main reasons for the defeat.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav cited batting failure as the main reason for the defeat. “We lost a lot of wickets in the powerplay and could not take the lead in the match at that time. There was a lack of small partnerships which we needed to reach the target. We will learn from this defeat and come back stronger in the future,” he said.

After the match, the bowling of Bumrah and Arshdeep was also praised by Suryakumar Yadav. He said, “We bowled brilliantly in the beginning and restricted South Africa to 3 wickets for 21 runs. The pair of Bumrah and Arshdeep took 5 wickets and gave less runs, their experienced bowling is very important for us.”

Now Team India will focus on the next match against Zimbabwe, for which the captain said, “Our plan is simple, we will play the cricket we like, i.e. good batting, bowling and fielding. We will make a strong comeback.”
