South Africa defeated India by 76 runs in their first Super 8 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

South Africa found redemption for their 2024 final loss to India after executing their plans perfectly against the Indian batters, who had struggled from the group stages.

Winning the toss and batting first was the right choice by the South African captain, Aiden Markram. However, they were once in trouble at the start when India took three wickets, but David Miller and Dewald Brevis added 97 runs to take the Proteas ahead.

Miller scored 63 off 35 balls, and Brevis amassed 45 off 29 balls to help their team have the upper hand in the game. Tristan Stubbs, with 44 not out off 24 took the total to 187 for 7.

Jasprit Bumrah, with 3/15 in four overs, and Arshdeep Singh, 2/28, were the top bowlers. Chasing 188, Ishan Kishan took the strike, and as expected, South Africa started with off-spinner Markram, who got rid of Kishan on the third ball of the first over.

Tilak Varma once again failed to perform, and got out on just 1 run. India lost their three wicket on 26 when Marco Jansen took the wicket of Abhishek Sharma (15 off 12 balls).

South Africa never let the game slip out and kept executing their plans. Indian wickets kept falling, and they were bowled out for 111 runs. Shivam Dube, with 42 off 37 balls, batted well.

Jansen took 4 wickets, while Keshav Maharaj picked up three scalps.
