A solid knock from David Miller and a breathtaking bowling performance from Marco Jansen set up South Africa’s mammoth 76-run victory against India at Ahmedabad.
Combined efforts from Dewald Brevis and other bowlers, South Africa dismantled India and handed their biggest defeat in the T20 World Cup history.
By this win, South Africa topped group 1 of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 points table with a run rate of 3.800.
After choosing to bat first, Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock opened the innings while Arshdeeo Singh opened the bowling attack.
India’s ace pacer Bumrah picked the first breakthrough, dismissing de Kock for 6 runs. On the other hand, Arshdeep bagged the wicket of Aiden Markram for 4 runs.
With Ryan Rickelton’s dismissal for 7 runs, South Africa lost three quick wickets for 20 runs.
However, Dewald Brevis and David Miller made a solid partnership, adding 97 runs for the fourth wicket.
While Brevis added 45 runs off 29 deliveries, David Miller smashed his fifty, Brevis lost his wicket to Shivam Dube.
David Miller added 63 runs off 35 deliveries before his dismissal by Varun Chakravarthy. Stubbs made a cameo, adding 44* runs as South Africa scored 187 runs in their 20-over innings.
Jasprit Bumrah bagged three wickets while Arshdeep Singh completed with two wickets. Varun Chakravarthy and Shivam Dube bagged one wicket each.
Chasing 188 runs target, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma opened the innings while Aiden Markram opened the bowling attack.
With the dismissal of Kishan for duck, Tilak Varma lost his wicket to Marco Jansen. Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav tried to forge a partnership, but Jansen bagged the wicket of the opener for 15 runs.
Washington Sundar, who came to bat at no. 5, lost his wicket to Corbin Bosch for 11 runs. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya added 18 runs each before their dismissal.
Keshav Maharaj bagged the wickets of Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh and Arshdeep Singh in a single over.
Shivam Dube did make a crucial contribution (42 runs off 37 deliveries) but did not make much of a difference, as India got bowled out for 111 runs, facing their second biggest defeat in the T20I format.
Marco Jansen picked four wickets while Keshav Maharaj was the second-highest wicket-taker for South Africa.
Corbin Bosch and Aiden Markram completed their respective spell with 2 and 1 wickets respectively.
