MS Dhoni is unlikely to play all the matches in the Indian Premier League 2026. He is associated with the Chennai Super Kings, and the franchise has confirmed that he will be available for the upcoming season of the tournament.

However, with Sanju Samson in the team, Dhoni will not compete in every game in the league.

“We can confirm that he is coming to Chennai for the new season of the IPL,” a senior CSK source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

“Whether he will be available for all the games or not is something we can’t confirm at the moment,” the source added.

With the Impact Player Rule, Dhoni hasn’t been used as a batter in the middle overs. He has played cameos in the last two editions.

Apart from Dhoni, Samson, Kartik Sharma and Urvil Patel are the other three wicket-keepers in the team. Samson will don the gloves in contests where Dhoni sits out. Kartik was bought for INR 14.20 crore, and he will have the task of finishing the games alongside all-rounder Shivam Dube.

Dhoni has been impacted by knee and back issues over the years, and he has struggled while running between the wickets.

Dhoni will certainly don CSK’s jersey in most of the home fixtures in Chennai, where his presence sends the fans into a frenzy, showing his bond with the franchise and the supporters.
