Star Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has come out in favour of his countryman KL Rahul after owner of the Lucknow Super Giants Sanjiv Goenka publicly criticised him following LSG’s humiliating 10-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024 match that was played on Wednesday, May 8, in Hyderabad. A number of videos featuring Goenka’s lively exchange with Rahul became widely shared on the internet.
Commenting on the Cricbuzz show , Shami blasted Goenka for his handling of the team’s captain and called it a disgraceful behaviour.
“This is unacceptable, you can talk about it later, or maybe in a private space. Maybe in the dressing room or in the hotel. It’s not necessary that you should go and criticoze him on the field itself. You haven’t achieved anything by doing such an act,” Shami stated.
The 33-year-old noted that KL Rahul, the captain of the squad, what’s even more disgusting that he was being humiliated in front of the cameras.
“He’s not just a player; he’s the captain as well. It’s a team game, so failing to execute the plan isn’t a huge deal. In the game, everything is possible. I know that players have good and terrible days, but there is a way to communicate and everyone must be treated with respect,” he added
As per a PTI report, LSG skipper Rahul may decide to relinquish his captaincy and focus solely on batting for the remaining two matches. Additionally, it seems doubtful that the franchise would retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
