Australian pace bowler Jhye Richardson has signed a deal with the Yorkshire club ahead of the upcoming County Championship season. Richardson will be available for the first phase of the 2026-27 First-Class tournament, signing with the club for a maximum of six matches. However, it is currently not looking viable for him to play all six games, since Cricket Australia is concerned for his workload.

For the unversed, Richardson made his Test debut during the recently concluded Ashes series against England. He got his maiden cap following the ouster of mainstay quicks Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins. The 29-year-old had made his way into the side after returning from a recurring shoulder injury that had kept him away for a year post the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against India, where he was a part of the Australian squad that won 3-1. Richardson is excited to be onboarded by Yorkshire.

"I'm really pleased to be joining Yorkshire. The history of the club and of Headingley goes without saying so to be coming here and playing red ball cricket for the first time is an immense privilege. Speaking with the coaches gave me a great sense of what the group are looking to achieve this year and I'm ready to get over and get started," Richardson was quoted as saying in a club statement.

Gavin Hamilton, Yorkshire's general manager of cricket, also expressed his delight upon the incoming of the seasoned Australian pacer.

"Jhye is a very impressive bowler who has performed exceptionally well, and he will really complement the team for that important first part of the season. His skillsets are ones suited to English conditions, and he can make things happen with that ability to push his speed into the high 80s," Hamilton said.

"Getting Jhye is a huge boost for us, and his quality underlines our ambition to build a squad capable of seriously competing in the County Championship. He's a proven player and we're thrilled to have secured him."
