The crucial ICC T20 World Cup 2026 match between Zimbabwe and Ireland has been delayed due to rain at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. If Zimbabwe win the game, they will qualify for the Super 8 stage, eliminating Australia from the global tournament.
However, a win for Ireland would make things interesting as it would keep them and the Aussies in the hunt for the second round. Zimbabwe have another game lined-up against the co-host, and a success would take the African nation to the second round.
If Zimbabwe end up losing that game as well and Australia manage to thump Oman in their last contest, Ireland, Australia and Zimbabwe would finish on four points. The qualification will then be decided based on net run rate.
Meanwhile, if the ZIM vs IRE match is called off due to rain, the former will play in the Super 8 stage along with Sri Lanka from Group B.
