Marriage was fixed, engagement was going to happen soon
29-year-old Anju Kumari, originally a resident of Jadu Goda area of East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand state, was working as a junior technician in IIT for three years and lived on the campus. After returning from office late on Friday night to her residence Type-L room number 102, Anju was not seen by anyone since morning. When a female colleague came to go to office on Saturday morning, the door was locked from inside. There was no movement even after knocking on the door for a long time, so the information reached the IIT administration. After this, when the door was broken in the presence of the police, Anju’s body was found hanging in front. Third suicide in technical institute in 46 days
The campus of the technical institute, which is counted among the prestigious institutes of the country, has been in the news for the last few years due to the continuous suicides of people who were more promising than studies and research. From February 2024 to January 2026, 10 people including students, researchers and employees have said goodbye to their lives. The news of a new suicide every day has raised questions on the working style of the campus administration. After all, what is the reason behind the death of promising people? Who will answer for the death of the student, researcher and employee? Sometimes a dead body was found hanging from a fan in a hostel room, and sometimes he was found dead by jumping from a campus building. On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, the series of deaths is not stopping, from a 29-year-old female junior technician to a PhD researcher and final year students. Suicide notes were found in many cases, in many the reason still remains a mystery. The investigation is still incomplete. The report of the counseling committee was also not made public. Are study pressure, mental stress or institutional flaws the reason for this? At present, this time also the Technical Institute has tried to absolve itself of its responsibility by shedding a few tears of condolence on Anju’s death. It is noteworthy that on the morning of 29th December, Jaisingh Meena, a final year student of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering department of B.Tech, had committed suicide. Jaisingh had embraced death when his hope of getting a good job was lost due to back paper. After this, on January 20, 2026, 28-year-old Ram Swaroop Ishram, resident of Churu district of Rajasthan, surprised everyone by jumping from the sixth floor of the building. He was doing PhD from the Department of Earth Science from IIT.
