Delhi: Sri Lankan batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa has now clarified his statement regarding ‘special bats’ of Indian players. This matter came into discussion during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, when some excerpts from one of his old interviews went viral on social media.
Sri Lanka defeated Ireland in its first match. Was defeated at Premadasa Stadium. After this victory, Rajapaksa, in an interview given to a local channel, had commented on the strong batting of the Indian batsmen and the quality of the bats used by them.
Rajapaksa had said that the bats of Indian players look exceptionally powerful and it seems as if there is an extra layer on them. He also said that such bats are not available in the market for common players.
After his statement, he was trolled heavily on social media. Many people took this as an accusation of Indian players breaking the rules. As the controversy escalated, Rajapaksa himself had to come forward and give clarification.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa, while posting on his He clarified that his intention was not to accuse any Indian player of violating ICC rules.
Rajapaksa said that his statement was actually a praise of the Indian cricket system, its technology, infrastructure and excellent bat manufacturing. He acknowledged that Indian batsmen have the world’s best customized ‘Player Edition’ bats, which are made according to their style and needs and are completely within the ICC rules.
In the end he said that he always respects Indian cricket and will try to keep his words more clear in future.
