Michael Leask Heroics Powers Scotland’s 73-Run Victory Against Italy

A four-wicket haul from Michael Leask and a solid knock from George Munsey have secured a mammoth victory for Scotland in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against Italy at Kolkata.

Richie Berrington’s side secured a 73-run victory and made a significant move in the T20 World Cup 2026 Points Table.

After being invited to bat first, Scotland’s openers George Munsey and Michael Jones made a solid start, scoring 126 runs for the first wicket.

Munsey scored 84 runs off 54 deliveries, which included 13 fours and 2 sixes with a strike rate of 155.56.

JJ Smuts bagged his first wicket of Michael Jones for 37 runs off 30 deliveries. With Richie Berrington and Tom Bruce dismissed for 15 and 1 runs respectively, Brandon McMullen and Michael Leask added up 41* and 22* respectively as Scotland scored 207 runs by the end of their 20-over innings.

Chasing 208 runs, Justin Mosca and Anthony Mosca opened the innings while Michael Leask opened the bowling attack.

Michael Leask picked up his first wicket, dismissing Justin Mosca on the first ball. With Anthony Mosca and JJ Smuts losing their wickets for 13 and 22, respectively, Harry Manenti and Ben Manenti made a solid partnership of 73 runs, with Ben scoring a fifty.

Meanwhile, Michael Leask bagged the wickets of Grant Stewart and Gian Meade, completing his four-wicket haul.

With Mark Watt dismissing Thomas Draca and Brad Wheal dismissing Ali Hasan for 2 and 0, Wayne Madsen did not come to bat. Italy scored only 134 runs and suffered a 73-run defeat.

Michael Leask was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking in the post-match presentation, Leask said, “For me, it was just the full team performance today. Look, it’s been a lot of hard work coming into this tour. We obviously hadn’t had the prep time, but it just shows how much dedication we’ve got to what we’ve done.”

“Look, we trained hard, and obviously I know the guys are going to give me stick by bowling at right-handers, but getting three of their right-handers out probably was the most important,” concluded Michael Leask.

Scotland will play their next match agianst England on February 14 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
