Lungi Ngidi Strikes Four as South Africa Cruise Past Canada At Ahmedabad

A stunning four-wicket haul from Lungi Ngidi has powered South Africa’s 57-run victory against Canada in the 09th match of the men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on February 09 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

By this win, South Africa bagged their first victory in the T20 World Cup campaign and made a significant move in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 points table.

After being invited to bat first, South Africa’s openers Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock made a quick start scring 70 runs for the 1st wicket. Dilpreet Bajwa bagged the first wicket of de Kock for 25 runs while Markram smashed his fifty and continued to bat.

He scored 59 runs off 32 deliveries before losing his wicket to Ansh Patel in the 12th over.

Ansh Patel bagged the wickets of Ryan Rickelton and Dewald Brevis for 33 and 6 Runs. With David Miller and Tristan Stubbs added unbeaten 39* and 34* runs as South Africa scored 213 runs in their 20-over innings.

Ansh Patel picked up three wickets while Dilpreet Bajwa completed his spell with a wicket.

In the pursuit of chasing 214 run target, Dilpreet Bajwa and Yuvraj Samra opened the innings while Lungi Ngidi opened the bowling attack.

Ngidi bagged the wicket of Bajwa for a golden duck, and he went on to pick the wickets of Yuvraj Samra and Nicholas Kirton for 12 and 4 wickets in a single over.

Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada bagged the wicket of Shreyas Movva for 9 runs as Canada lost four wickets in the powerplay for 45 runs.

A solid partnership from Navneet Dhaliwal and Harsh Thaker had showed some resistance before Ngidi bagged the wicket of Thaker for 33 runs.

Marco Jansen picked the wickets of Saad Bin Zafar and Jaskaran Singh in the consecutive deliveries in the 18th over. Navneet Dhaliwal who scored 64 runs off 49 deliveries, got dismissed by Corbin Bosch in the final over.

With Dilon Heyliger and Kaleem Sana at crease, Canada scored 156 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 over innings.

Lungi Ngidi was named as the player of the Match. Speaking at the post match presentation, Ngidi said, “I think it’s the fact that I have to find a way to take wickets. I’m willing to take those risks. You know, sometimes they go for boundaries, but bowling those risky balls sometimes pay off and they end up in the wickets column.”

“So that’s pretty much the way I play the T20 game, and I’m just looking to keep doing more of the same,” added Ngidi.
