A dazzling display of fielding brilliance stole the show in the 8th match of Group B at the T20 World Cup 2026, as Zimbabwe faced Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on February 9. The conclusion of Oman’s innings provided one of the most unforgettable moments of the tournament.
Having been sent in to bat first, Oman struggled to find momentum with the bat in Colombo. In a bid to lift their total, they looked for big hits towards the end of the innings. However, Brad Evans tricked Nadeem Khan with a well-executed slower ball, forcing the left-hander to step out and attempt a leg-side shot.
Nadeem didn’t connect, sending the ball flying towards deep mid-wicket, where there was no fielder in sight. Brian Bennett turned the situation around with a moment of magic, making it one of the most talked-about moments of the T20 World Cup 2026.
Bennett sprinted to his right, making ground quickly from deep mid-wicket, and then executed a flawless dive. He grabbed the ball with both hands, landing smoothly while ensuring the catch remained intact. His incredible athleticism stunned the crowd, creating one of the most jaw-dropping moments of the ongoing global tournament.
The dismissal brought an end to Oman’s innings, with Nadeem walking off after making 20 runs from 18 balls, including one four and one six. Zimbabwe dismissed Oman for 103 runs.
In reply to Oman’s total of 103, Zimbabwe comfortably chased down the target, securing an 8-wicket victory with 39 balls to spare. Bennett remained unbeaten on 48 from 36 balls, including 7 boundaries. Tadiwanashe Marumani contributed with a quick-fire 21 off 11 balls, while Brendan Taylor (wk) made 31 from 30 balls before retiring hurt.
