The family and villagers immediately took Virat to the district hospital, but the doctors there declared him dead. Chief Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital, Dr. Dharmendra Singh said that the family refused to conduct post-mortem and took the body home from the emergency room itself.

Virat’s uncle Rajesh Singh told that during the game he had complained of pain in his left hand and neck. They believe that he probably died due to a heart attack. However, without post-mortem the exact cause of death could not be confirmed.
