Delhi: Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly on Sunday praised the balance of Team India under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav and said that India is the favorite to win the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Praising the team’s balance in all departments – bowling, batting and fielding, Ganguly said that as the World Cup approaches, the Indian team will get even better.
“This is a very powerful and strong team with bowling, batting and fielding – all in balance. They will get better as the World Cup progresses. They are favorites to win the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” Ganguly told the media.
On captain Suryakumar Yadav’s performance in India’s match against USA, Ganguly said, “He came into this tournament having scored a lot of runs. He is a champion T20 player.”
Talking about this match, after being put to bat first, the Men in Blue scored 161/9 in 20 overs on February 8 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Captain Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant unbeaten inning of 84 runs on 49 balls.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan (20 runs off 16 balls, one four and two sixes) and Tilak Verma (25 runs off 16 balls, three fours and one six) also contributed with the bat.
For USA, Shadley van Schalkwyk (4/29) and Harmeet Singh (2/26) were among the wicket-takers.
In reply, USA was reduced to 132/8 and India won the match by 29 runs. Milind Kumar (34 runs on 34 balls, four fours), Sanjay Krishnamurthy (37 runs on 31 balls, two sixes and one four) and Shubham Ranjane (37 runs on 22 balls, two fours and three sixes) played fighting innings for their team.
For India, Mohammed Siraj (3/29), Axar Patel (2/24), and Arshdeep Singh (2/18) bowled brilliantly to take wickets.
