Mathura . A heartbreaking road accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday on Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, in which 6 people died tragically on the spot and one person was seriously injured. This accident happened at around 2:45 am near Milestone 88 under Surir Kotwali area. According to the information received, a private bus was going from Nangloi in Delhi towards Rasulabad in Kanpur. On the way, some passengers requested to stop the bus for short notice, after which the driver parked the bus on the side of the expressway.
As soon as the passengers got down from the bus, an uncontrolled and extremely fast container coming from behind hit the bus and hit the people standing on the roadside. The collision was so severe that there was an outcry on the spot and an atmosphere of chaos was created on the expressway. As soon as the information was received, the local police and the rescue team of Yamuna Expressway immediately reached the spot and started relief work. The police immediately took the injured to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared 6 people dead. Four of the deceased have been identified as Sonu (resident of Auraiya), Devesh (resident of Basti), Aslam (resident of Kannauj) and Santosh (resident of Delhi), while the process of identification of two others is still going on.
A person named Amar Dubey has been seriously injured in this accident, who is undergoing treatment in the hospital. The magnitude of the incident can be gauged from the fact that four of the dead are said to be from the same family. Taking cognizance of this road accident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep sorrow. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family members and instructed the district administration officials to immediately reach the spot and speed up the relief work and provide proper treatment to the injured. The District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police inspected the incident site and took stock of the situation.
Administrative officials said that prima facie this accident seems to be the result of the bus driver stopping the vehicle at an unsafe place and the negligence of the container driver. Police have taken possession of the accident vehicles and have started searching for the absconding driver. All the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The district administration has assured to provide financial assistance to the affected families as per rules. The police are now investigating whether safety standards were violated on the expressway, so that such incidents can be prevented in future.
