After Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah, the name of young opener Abhishek Sharma has also been added to this list, who suddenly fell ill during the first match against America.

On Saturday 7 February, the Indian team started its campaign in the World Cup 2026. In the first match, the Indian team faced USA. Batting first, Team India had scored 161 runs. But during America's innings, Abhishek's health suddenly deteriorated. He was on the field at the beginning of the American batting but then he had to go out and was not seen even in the dugout with the other players of the team.

Where at that time everyone was surprised by this because during the match it did not appear that Abhishek had suffered any kind of injury. But this was revealed after the match was over. Captain Suryakumar Yadav told during the presentation that actually Abhishek fell ill, due to which he was not seen on the field. He told that Bumrah had high fever before the match and Abhishek also became a little ill.

Team India's star fast bowler Mohammad Siraj revealed about Abhishek's health. Siraj told that the star opener suddenly started having stomach ache, due to which he left the field midway. Apparently, considering Abhishek's importance, he was not fielded again. In his place, Sanju Samson was seen on the field as a substitute fielder.

However, Siraj also gave a relief news and told that Abhishek will be fit for the next match, where he will show the power of his bat. Abhishek will also be eager to play the next match so that he can perform as is expected from him in this World Cup. The first match against USA was not at all good for the Indian opener and he got out without opening the account after playing just one ball. This was his first match for India in any senior ICC tournament. His debut was not good but now he would like to make up for it against Namibia on 12th February.
