Legendary Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh said Virat Kohli is the finest batter of this generation and feels that Kohli is worthy of another World Cup victory more than anybody else. Yuvraj, who was recently designated as the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 ambassador, acknowledged Kohli’s ambition for the coveted trophy as he prepares for his sixth appearance in the competition in 2024. Kohli made his T20 World Cup debut in 2012.
With a record-breaking performance at the ODI World Cup 2023 and Player of the Tournament honour under his belt, Kohli will be looking forward to the T20 World Cup, which begins on June 2. Yuvraj highlighted that Kohli deserves the opportunity to win a second World Cup medal, emulating his victory in 2011.
“He has certainly shattered every record set in this era. In every format, I believe he is this generation’s best batter. He needs a World Cup medal, in my opinion. He’s got one. He is unsatisfied with one, I’m sure,” stated Yuvraj in his interview with the ICC.
“He knows his game well. Virat is aware that if he stays in the game till the end, he will win it for India, as he has done on several occasions, including at Mohali against Australia,” he added.
Yuvraj Singh feels that Kohli’s best performance came in 2014, even though he delivered some of the most memorable knocks in T20 World Cup history in the 2016 and 2022 editions. Kohli scored the most runs in a single T20 World Cup edition that year, dominating the competition.
As Kohli’s teammate, Yuvraj was especially amazed by these incredible performances and praised Kohli’s exceptional ball-striking throughout the competition. Yuvraj pointed out to the 2014 event as evidence of his extraordinary skill.
“I thought he was top-notch. He was at the peak of his skills. He had an unbelievable ball striking ability. And in the end, I had a small partnership with him before he batted alongside Dhoni,” he concluded.
