India and the United States of America started their campaign at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 with a mouthwatering contest at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, February 7. The Indian team is playing this match without the services of its star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, as a result of which Mohammed Siraj has been brought in as a replacement.

Toss Update

The United States of America won the toss and opted to take the field first against the Men in Blue. The USA skipper Monank Patel expressed that playing in their second straight T20 World Cup is a feeling of pride.

Monank further confirmed six batters, a couple of all-rounders, and three bowlers as their combination for today's game. India, on the other hand, are without Bumrah, Sanju Samson, and Washington Sundar.

Why did Jasprit Bumrah miss out on playing in India vs USA, Match 3?

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed the team's Playing XI at the toss, where he also revealed an unfortunate illness to Bumrah being the reason behind his unavailability for the tournament opener. India have moved on from Sanju Samson, with Ishan Kishan set to open and handle the wicketkeeping duties as well.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Washington Sundar has yet to recuperate from his injury and is sitting out.

We are going to bowl first. Looks like a good surface. High-scoring ground, so we will look to hunt it down. The World Cup is one of the biggest stages for us. There are a lot of expectations from the US, so we will look to do well. We played a couple of warmup games at the DY patil and we had a good run there. We have 6 batters, 2 all-rounders and 3 bowlers.

Suryakumar Yadav, India captain

We were looking to bat first.

Wicket looks good, there is wind around so we don't expect dew. It's alive even before the game starts and I am sure it is going to be even better. We have Washi missing out, Sanju missing out. Unfortunately Bumrah is not well so Siraj is playing.
