The 32-year-old fast bowler Pramod Madushan has been included in Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad, replacing the injured Eshan Malinga, who dislocated his shoulder during the second T20I against England at home.

The injury took place when he bowled the first ball after a rain interval in the match. He clutched his non-bowling shoulder after releasing the delivery, fell to the floor during his follow-through and missed out on the third T20I as well.

Pramod Madushan will be joining the pace department, which features Matheesha Pathirana and Dushmantha Chameera.

Madushan has notable appearances for the Sri Lanka in 13 ODIs, 8 T20Is and his selection is seen as a strategic move that could bolster the team’s bowling attack in the tournament.

“Madushan, a medium-fast bowler who has played 13 ODIs and eight T20Is, was named as a replacement after Malinga was ruled out following a shoulder injury sustained during the bilateral T20I against England on 1 February,” ICC said in a statement.

To accomodate Pramod Madushan, he requires the endorsement of the Technical Committee (ETC) before he could officially join the squad.

The committee includes prominent figures in the world of cricket. Wasim Khan – ICC General Manager for Cricket, Gaurav Saxena (International Cricket Broadcast), and Hemang Amin (host representative) and Shaun Pollock are the member of the committee.

Pramod Madushan’s inclusion may provide a fresh dynamic to the team as they gear up to take on formidable challengers in the upcoming matches.

As per the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 schedule, Sri Lanka will play their opener match against Ireland on February 08 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
