Navneet Kaur, the key forward of the Indian women’s hockey team, recently said that in today’s hockey, just showing attacking performance is not enough. He believes that defensive skills are equally important for a striker. Navneet Kaur is currently strengthening her team’s preparations in the ongoing national camp for the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2026.
Navneet said, “In today’s hockey, just attacking is not enough. As a striker, defensive skills are also important. This time I am focusing on tackling and creating pressure without the ball, because winning the ball back proves to be very beneficial for the team.”
Navneet further added, “We have a very clear goal. We want to qualify for the 2026 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup and aim to give our best performance in the qualifiers.” This ongoing camp will be held in Hyderabad from March 8 to 14, where the top three teams will qualify for the World Cup.
Navneet Kaur also shared her experiences on working with new head coach Shored Marin. He said, “Marin’s coaching style is very clear and direct. He tells us clearly what are the expectations from us and what kind of performance is expected from us. This clear direction helps us work better as a team.”
Navneet also talked about recently winning the Women’s Hero Hockey India League title with her team SG Pipers. “Playing with foreign players boosts the confidence of young players. The exposure they get from the Hero Hockey India League is clearly visible when they return to the national camp,” he said.
Navneet also talked about the team’s positive mindset, “Every player in the camp is keen to learn new things. Even if some things don’t work out immediately, we keep trying and improving ourselves.” Thus, the team is moving towards its goal in a positive environment.
Navneet Kaur and her team’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s FIH Hockey World Cup now look even stronger and focused. Their hard work and dedication will not only give Indian women’s hockey a strong base for World Cup qualification, but will also give a new direction to the global identity of Indian hockey.
