Prayagraj. A ‘mega scam’ regarding teacher recruitment in government schools of Uttar Pradesh has been exposed, which has created an earthquake in the entire education department. Allahabad High Court has given a historic decision after the fraud of a female teacher who was taking salary from the government treasury for 15 years was exposed. The court has not only ordered the dismissal of the fake teacher and recovery of his full salary, but has also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the appointment of assistant teachers across Uttar Pradesh. After this decision, there has been a stir among thousands of teachers and concerned officials of the state.

A complaint exposed a 15 year old mystery

This whole incident started from an upper primary school in Salempur block of Deoria district. Here in July 2010, a woman named Garima Singh was appointed to the post of assistant teacher. She was working without any interruption for the last 15 years. But a complaint received in 2025 shook the foundation of this entire fraud. After the complaint, when the investigation of the case was handed over to the Special Task Force (STF), shocking revelations were revealed layer by layer. During investigation, it became clear that all the degrees and certificates on the basis of which Garima Singh had obtained this prestigious government job were fake.

All arguments rejected in court, learned a tough lesson

As soon as the matter came to light, in March 2025, the Basic Education Officer (BSA) of Deoria canceled the appointment of Garima Singh and dismissed her. Garima approached Allahabad High Court against this action. His lawyer argued that after 15 years of long service and verification done at the time of appointment, this action is now wrong. But, the bench of Justice Manu Srivastava rejected these arguments outright. The Court made a scathing observation and said, “A person who is in receipt of any benefit obtained by fraud is not entitled to any concession or protection.” The court not only upheld the dismissal but also ordered recovery of the entire salary paid so far.

Now the heat of investigation in the entire state, officials will also measure it

The High Court did not consider this case as the fraud of just one person and considered it a major attack on the system. The court has ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to conduct a thorough and time-bound investigation into the appointments of all assistant teachers in the state. This investigation will have to be completed within the next six months. Along with this, the court has also directed to tighten the noose on those officials, due to whose negligence or connivance such fake teachers remained a part of the system for so many years. Strict departmental and legal action will be taken against the officers found guilty in the investigation.

This decision reflects the High Court’s deep concern about the quality of education and the future of students. The court clearly said that education given by unqualified teachers cannot be tolerated at all, because it weakens the foundation of our country. After this decision, it is now certain that the path ahead will not be easy for those who get jobs with the help of fake documents.
