India will begin their T20 World Cup 2026 journey later this week, taking on the USA at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. As the defending champions, Suryakumar Yadav and his squad will look to add a third title to their collection, having triumphed in 2024 under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. This victory marked India’s second T20 World Cup title, with the first coming in 2007. MS Dhoni, who led India to success in South Africa, has labelled this team as “one of the most dangerous,” though he acknowledged that dew could pose a challenge for the side.
“It’s one of the most dangerous teams. What makes a good team? They have everything. They have the experience, and when it comes to this format, their experience is extensive. They’ve played under pressure. No matter what roles the players are fulfilling in the team, they’ve been in those situations for a significant amount of time,” Dhoni said on Mahi Unplugged.
“What concerns me? again, it’s dew. I really dislike it because it changes so many things. Even when I was playing, dew was something that truly worried me. It makes the toss crucial and impacts the game. If we play 10 matches against some of the best teams, we’ll come out on top more often than not, provided the conditions stay neutral,” he added.
While acknowledging that India is a formidable team, Dhoni also pointed out the unpredictability of the T20 format.
“The issue arises when some of your players have an off day, and an opposition player gives superb performance. That can happen in T20 cricket. Whether it’s during the league stage or the knockout stage, you need prayers. You hope no one gets injured, and everyone performs the role assigned to them for the team,” he mentioned.
“And if that’s the case, I’d rather not say anything to jinx it. But it’s definitely one of the most dangerous teams,” he concluded.
