NEW DELHI: T20 World Cup 2026 is around the corner, and former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has shared his views on the current Indian squad, suggesting it may be even stronger than the 2007 World Cup-winning team under MS Dhoni.
The team, according to Sehwag, is packed with match-winners across all departments, making it one of India’s most balanced T20 sides in recent history.
“We have brilliant all-rounders, spinners, and fast bowlers. It is not like we cannot win this World Cup, but it should be our day when it matters in the knockouts,” Sehwag said while speaking to Cricbuzz.
He highlighted the blend of youth and experience in the squad, which he believes gives India an edge in crucial games.
“Our T20 World Cup squad is brilliant. We are doing very well under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, and we just beat New Zealand 4-1,” Sehwag added, emphasizing the team’s strong recent form.
Sehwag also noted that playing on home soil adds an extra advantage for India, reminding fans of the 2011 World Cup success.
“There is a perfect mix of young and experienced players. This World Cup is happening on home soil, and just like we had won in 2011, we will aim to win once again,” he said.
India currently appears to be a powerhouse in all three departments. With Suryakumar Yadav leading from the front and a squad that combines skill and experience, they look well-prepared to make a deep run in the T20 World Cup 2026.
