Lucknow: The severe winter has now fully knocked in Uttar Pradesh. The effect of the western disturbance active since Sunday was visible in large parts of the state on Tuesday also. The rain, which started from western Uttar Pradesh, spread to Bundelkhand, Madhyanchal and Awadh region, due to which a drop in temperature and a sharp increase in cold was recorded.
Rain in many districts, hail also fell at some places
Light to moderate rain occurred in Bundelkhand’s Hamirpur, Mahoba, Chitrakoot, Jhansi and Lalitpur in the early hours of Tuesday. Apart from this, moderate rainfall was also recorded in Kanpur, Unnao, Lucknow, Barabanki, Ayodhya and Rae Bareli.
Hailstorm has been reported in some areas of Unnao, Chitrakoot, Hardoi and Etawah. Small hail was reported in parts of Lucknow and BKT area, although official confirmation remained limited.
The Meteorological Department has indicated that there is a possibility of rain and hailstorm with thunder in some districts of Awadh region even today.
Winds blowing at a speed of 40-50 km/hour
Strong gusty winds at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour occurred in many districts of Awadh including the capital Lucknow. Due to strong winds and rain there was darkness even during the day. At around 9 in the morning, dense clouds covered the sky, making the day feel like night.
People who came out on the streets had to face a lot of trouble due to rain and winds. Many people were forced to stay in shop sheds and under trees. Traffic was also affected due to waterlogging.
Orange alert of dense fog in 21 districts
According to Atul Kumar Singh, senior scientist of Zonal Meteorological Centre, Lucknow, an orange alert of dense to extremely dense fog has been issued for Wednesday in 21 districts of the state including Bundelkhand and Prayagraj division.
These districts include Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Bhadohi, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Agra, Firozabad, Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi and Lalitpur.
Dense fog reduced visibility to zero in Aligarh, Agra, Bareilly and Gorakhpur, affecting road and rail traffic.
Temperature drops, Bulandshahr is coldest
A significant drop in temperature was recorded due to rain and strong winds. In Lucknow, the day’s maximum temperature dropped by 5.9 degrees to 20.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature dropped by 1.3 degrees to 14.3 degrees Celsius.
Bulandshahr was the coldest district in the state with a minimum temperature of 9 degrees Celsius. Whereas in Varanasi and Ghazipur, the maximum temperature was recorded at 26.5 degrees Celsius, which was the highest in the state.
Hamirpur recorded maximum rainfall of 9 mm, while Jalaun recorded 7.2 mm and Lucknow 7 mm.
How will the weather be in future?
According to meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh, the effect of western disturbance will start weakening from Wednesday and the weather is likely to become dry in the state. However, dense fog may persist in the lowland areas in the morning. There are signs of further increase in cold with a slight drop in night temperatures, while the day weather is expected to remain normal.
The Meteorological Department has advised people to be cautious in view of the dense fog and possible hailstorm, especially the drivers have been instructed to drive slowly and travel only when necessary.
