Vaibhav Suryavanshi in U19 World Cup: Team India is riding on the chariot of victory in the Under-19 World Cup, but till now the cricket fans have not got to see as much from Vaibhav Suryavanshi as was expected from him. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has so far scored only 196 runs in the tournament at an average of 39.20. But now he will have a chance to become number 1 in the semi-finals against Afghanistan. If he capitalizes on this opportunity, he will not only become number 1 but can also break the record of Pakistan's Babar Azam.
Capitalizing on the opportunity in the semi-final against Afghanistan means playing big innings. If Vaibhav Suryavanshi plays that big innings i.e. century in the semi-finals, which the cricket fans are eagerly waiting for, then he can have both heads and tails. Meaning, he can also break Babar Azam's record and while doing so, he can also become number 1 in terms of scoring most runs among active players in Under 19 ODI.
The highest run scorer among active players in Under 19 ODI is in the name of Bangladesh's Azizul Hakim, who has scored 1261 runs in 35 innings of 37 matches. During this period his average is 42.03 while his strike rate is 74.79. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is currently at second place in the list of Ranveer, the eldest among active players. He has scored 1169 runs in 23 innings of 23 matches. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has an average of 50.82. Whereas his strike rate of 158.18 is the highest compared to any batsman in the history of Under 19 ODI.
Now Bangladesh team is out of the tournament. In such a situation, in the semi-final against Afghanistan, Vaibhav Suryavanshi will have a chance to become the number 1 active player scoring the most runs in Under 19 ODI. To overtake Azizul Hakim of Bangladesh and become number 1, he will have to score 93 runs in the semi-finals.
If Vaibhav Suryavanshi scores a century while writing the script of becoming the number 1 batsman who has scored the most runs among the active players, then it is possible that he may break the record of Babar Azam as well. Babar Azam has 1271 runs in 35 innings of 36 matches in Under-19 ODI, which includes 3 centuries and 8 half-centuries. During this period, his average was 38.51 and strike rate was 73.85. Meaning, to leave behind Babar Azam in terms of runs, Vaibhav Suryavanshi needs 103 runs.
