India A delivered a commanding statement ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 as they defeated the United States of America (USA) by 38 runs in a high-scoring warm-up encounter at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Monday, February 2. The contest was headlined by a breathtaking century from Narayan Jagadeesan and a confident comeback innings from Tilak Varma, as India A piled up a massive 238 for 3.

Narayan Jagadeesan smashes 47-ball century against USA

The standout performance of the evening came from N Jagadeesanwho produced a stunning 104 off just 55 deliveries. The wicketkeeper-batter reached his century in only 47 balls, setting the tone for India A’s dominant batting display. Jagadeesan’s knock was a blend of clean striking and intelligent placement, featuring 11 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate close to 190.

Coming in early after the fall of Priyansh Arya, Jagadeesan quickly seized control of the innings. His ability to accelerate without undue risk left the USA bowlers scrambling for answers on a batting-friendly surface.

Tilak Varma marks comeback with fluent knock

Making his return after injury, Tilak Varma looked in fine touch during his 38-run knock off 24 balls. Batting at No. 3, the left-hander played with confidence and intent, striking at over 158 and rotating the strike effectively. His partnership with Jagadeesan was crucial in pushing India A beyond the 150-run mark by the 14th over.

Tilak’s presence also provided balance to the middle order, reassuring the team management ahead of the main tournament. His dismissal shortly after crossing the halfway mark did little to slow India A’s momentum.

Ayush Badoni finishes in style as India A post 238

Captain Ayush Badoni ensured there was no let-up at the death. Badoni hammered an unbeaten 60 off just 26 balls, showcasing his finishing prowess with a flurry of boundaries and sixes. India A closed their innings at an imposing 238 for 3.

The USA bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with most conceding runs at over 10 an over despite rotating their options throughout the innings.

USA’s spirited chase falls short

Chasing a daunting target of 239, the USA showed intent early but were always playing catch-up. Andries Gous top-scored with a brisk 44, while Sanjay Krishnamurthi added 41 off just 18 balls to keep the chase alive briefly.

However, regular wickets halted any sustained momentum. India A’s bowling attack, led by Ravi Bishnoi, applied consistent pressure through the middle overs. Bishnoi finished with three wickets, while Khaleel Ahmed and Naman Dhir shared 4 wickets between them.
