Lucknow Super Giants couldn’t score runs at a brisk pace against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the powerplay overs. LSG captain KL Rahul (29 runs off 33 balls) and Krunal Pandya (24 balls off 21 balls) failed to hit boundaries after Quinton de Kock (2) and Marcus Stoinis (3). Former India player Parthiv Patel held the slow batting by the two batters responsible for the visitors’ defeat at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
“Lucknow lost the match when they scored 27 runs from the powerplay overs. You can’t challenge a team like Hyderabad if you don’t score runs when the field restrictions are on. Although, Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran batted well in the death overs, the total was below-par.
“Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma showed their class and didn’t allow the bowlers to settle down. They completed the chase in no time,” Parthiv Patel said on JioCinema.
RP Singh heaped massive praise on the two SRH openers. “Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were sensational, and this is the first time in IPL 2024 that a franchise has won the game by 10 wickets. All the bowlers were taken for plenty of runs,” RP Singh said on JioCinema.
With Hyderabad’s win, Mumbai Indians have become the first team to be eliminated from the playoff race. Sunrisers have 14 points from 12 games and ate third in the table.
Lucknow have 12 points from 12 games and need to win the remaining two to stand a chance to play in the next round.
