Sanju Samson's bat remained completely silent in the five-match T20 series between India and New Zealand. Sanju, who played as an opener and wicketkeeper, scored only 46 runs in five innings, in which his average was very low. During the series he scored 10, 6, 0, 24 and in the last match he scored 6 runs. This performance has become a big cause of concern for Team India before the T20 World Cup 2026. Due to which a big step was taken by the management during the last match of the series.
The fifth match played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram was a special opportunity for Sanju, because this is his home ground and he was playing an international match here for the first time. But he was out after scoring 6 runs on balls. However, the fans encouraged him by clapping. But during New Zealand's batting, the team management took a big decision and snatched the responsibility of wicketkeeping from Sanju and handed it over to Ishan Kishan. In the last four matches, Sanju was keeping wickets, while Ishaan played only as a batsman. But this change in the last match surprised everyone. Ishaan not only handled the wicketkeeping, but also played a stormy innings with the bat and scored a century.
Ishan Kishan's performance in the series has been excellent. He scored big and batted aggressively. In this match also, he scored 103 runs in 43 balls, which included 10 sixes. Let us tell you, Ishan was selected as the backup wicketkeeper for the T20 World Cup 2026, but his current form can get him a place in the playing XI. Many people are also considering this as a sign of replacing Sanju.
