England won the first match of the T20 series against Sri Lanka by 11 runs (DLS method). England’s bowlers had an excellent performance in this victory, where Sam Curran took a historic hat-trick and Adil Rashid bowled tightly and took 3 wickets.

The match was affected by rain. England won the toss and decided to bowl first. Thanks to his bowling, the Sri Lankan team was reduced to 133 runs. In reply, England got a revised target (DLS) due to rain and won the match.

Sam Curran created history, took a brilliant hat-trick

The biggest moment of the match came when England all-rounder Sam Curran created history by taking a hat-trick in the 16th over. He dismissed Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka, Mahesh Theekshana and Mathisha Pathirana in three consecutive balls.

With this, Sam Curran has become the second England bowler to take a hat-trick in Men’s T20 International. Before him, this feat was done by Chris Jordan.

Adil Rashid took 3 wickets, got ‘Player of the Match’ title

Although Sam Curran took a hat-trick, the ‘Player of the Match’ award went to Adil Rashid. Leg spinner Rashid took 3 important wickets giving just 19 runs in 4 overs in a very economical manner. His bowling kept the Sri Lankan batsmen occupied throughout the innings.

Kushal Mendis (37) and Pathum Nissanka (23) gave a good start for Sri Lanka, but due to continuous fall of wickets, the team could never score a good score.

Rain changed the equation of the match

Rain came after Sri Lanka’s innings, due to which England’s innings was reduced to 17 overs and they got the target of 112 runs under the DLS method. Despite the rain, the England team successfully completed the target and hoisted the victory flag on the match.

With this victory, England has taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match T20 series. Both the teams will face each other once again in the next match.
