The New South Wales and Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Sixers has decided to part ways with coach Greg Shipperd despite a year left out on his contract.

Notably, Greg Shipperd was re-signed in his role in November 2025. He was signed on a two-year deal in both roles until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Sydney Sixers who etched their name in BBL winners’s list three times played in the BBL 2025-26 finals under Greg Shipperd’s mentor and New South Wales was within reach of making Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup finals with four and three rounds remaining, respectively.

Making the announcement official, New South Wales chief executive Lee Germon took centre stage and talked about how hard of a decision it was to let Shipperd go.

“I believe that Greg and his coaching team have done a really good job of stabilising our side after a couple of difficult seasons and bringing in some good systems and processes, and now, in my view, was a time for us to go up another level and consistently win matches and look to win titles,” said Lee Germon.

“This season, we’ve actually lost more matches than we’ve won at the moment. But it’s also the manner in which we’ve lost some of those games that has really confirmed to me, and it really hasn’t happened as quickly as I would have liked in terms of seeing the signs that we can shift to that next level,” Germon added.

“So I needed to make the call now, in my view, to give us an opportunity to also go find the next coach, and I believe the time is right now to make that change,” he added.

On the other hand, Sydney Sixers general manager Rachael Haynes has paid tribute to Shipperd’s contribution to the club.

“Greg’s contribution to the Sydney Sixers over eight seasons has been immense, and we are incredibly grateful for everything he has given to this club,” Haynes said.

“He has led the team through finals campaigns, delivered championships, and consistently set high standards across our program.”

“Greg’s leadership, integrity and care for people have shaped our playing group and staff, and his influence will be felt long beyond his tenure.

“We thank him wholeheartedly for his dedication and service. He will be missed by players and staff alike, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his distinguished career, concluded Sydney Sixers general manager Rachael Haynes.

Greg Shipperd will conclude his tenure as Head Coach of the NSW Blues till the end of their season.
