WPL 2026: Gujarat Giants into eliminator after 11-run victory over Mumbai Indians

Gujarat Giants have qualified for the Eliminator of the WPL 2026 after recording an 11-run win over the defending champions, Mumbai Indians.

Chasing 168, Mumbai batters failed to stitch partnerships and the two-time champions were restricted to 156/7. The rivals undid Hayley Matthews (6) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (2). It was down to skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who recorded another meaningful innings in the ongoing WPL. She scored an unbeaten 82 runs off 48 balls, smashing 8 fours and 4 sixes. Kerr (20 off 16) and Amanjot Kaur (13 off 12) tried their best to put the bowlers under pressure, but they were not able to stay in the middle.

Earlier, Gujarat Giants posted 167/4 after winning the toss. Beth Mooney managed just 5 runs, but Sophie Devine scored 25 runs off 21 balls to give some momentum to the innings. She hit three boundaries. Anushka Sharma amassed 33 runs off 31 deliveries, including 4 boundaries and 1 six.

The real acceleration came from captain Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham, who added 71 runs for the fourth wicket. Gardner accumulated 46 runs off 28 deliveries, with the help of 7 fours and 1 maximum. Wareham was magnificent in her knock of 44 not out in 26 balls, packed with 4 boundaries and 2 maximums.

Amelia Kerr was the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets for MI. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Shabnim Ismail added one scalp each to their bowling figures.

Devine and Wareham claimed two wickets each for the Giants. Gardner, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Kashvee Gautam also dismissed one batter each.

GG have 10 points from 8 matches while MI recorded 6 points from 8 games.
