Delhi: The return of Team India’s star batsman Tilak Verma to the field does not seem far away. He has reached the last stage in the direction of fitness and is expected to get formal approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) soon.

Big update on Tilak Verma’s fitness

Tilak had recently undergone stomach surgery, after which many questions were raised regarding his availability. Especially in view of the 2026 T20 World Cup starting from February 7, the selectors were keeping an eye on his recovery. Now indications are that Tilak is almost completely fit and can participate in a simulation match to be held at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Clearance will be given after simulation match

According to media reports, this simulation match will be played on Friday. On the basis of this match, the BCCI medical team will assess Tilak’s match fitness. If everything goes as per plan, he will be given fitness clearance by the board. After this, the path to return to competitive cricket will be completely clear for him.

Hoping to join the World Cup team

Sources say that Tilak Verma can join other players of the Indian World Cup squad for warm-up matches on February 3. Earlier, there was a possibility that he might make a comeback in the last two matches of the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand, but BCCI had made it clear that it would take time for him to regain full match fitness.

It is noteworthy that a final decision on the fitness of the left-handed batsman will be taken in the coming days, which can provide a big relief to Team India before the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
