Kajal met Ankur, who was posted as a clerk in the Defense Ministry, during her college studies in 2022. They fell in love and got married in 2023 with the consent of the family. It was a beautiful love marriage, but this relationship was haunted by the demon of dowry. Family members allege that just 15 days after the marriage, her in-laws started harassing Kajal for a car and money.

This process of harassment started with taunts and abuses and ended in physical violence. The situation became so bad that in 2024, Kajal started living in a separate flat in Delhi. She was four months pregnant and was struggling to save both her relationship and career. But on the night of January 22, 2026, her husband Ankur was bleeding. Ankur admitted Kajal to the hospital in a critical condition, where she struggled between life and death for several days. Ultimately, on January 27, Kajal lost this battle. Along with her death, the four-month-old child in her womb also stopped breathing. Police have recovered blood stained dumbbells and other evidence from the crime scene. The case of attempt to murder has now been converted into murder and Delhi Police has arrested the accused husband Ankur and sent him to judicial custody.
