Delhi: During the tenure of head coach Gautam Gambhir of the Indian cricket team, the team’s performance has been ‘good-bad’ in different formats, where the team is continuously achieving success in T20 International. At the same time, disappointing performance has been seen in Test and ODI cricket.

India’s weak performance in test cricket

The Indian Test team under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir has struggled in the home series in recent times. India not only failed to win a single Test match against teams like New Zealand and South Africa, but also failed to draw a draw. India’s defeat at home in both these series has raised questions on the team’s red-ball performance.

Lost in ODI also

Not only in Test, but also in ODI format, India performed poorly. New Zealand’s relatively less experienced team defeated India in the ODI series in its own home. This defeat has also raised questions about the team’s preparation in limited overs matches.

Flags of success in T20

However, under the coaching of Gambhir, the Indian team has been in a good position in T20 International and the team has achieved many victories in limited overs cricket. Because of this, there has often been speculation that in future, Gambhir may be retained as the coach of only the T20 team and there may be a separate coach for the Test team.

BCCI Secretary put brakes on people’s opinion

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia responded clearly to these speculations. Speaking to Sportstar, he said that everyone has the right to express their opinion, but the final decisions are taken by the competent committee and selectors present with the BCCI.

Saikia said, “There are 140 crore people in our country and everyone has an opinion on cricket. It is a democratic right to express one’s opinion, media and social media are also involved in this, but the job of taking decisions lies with our cricket committee and selectors. These people take important decisions to the team and coaching.”

The final decision always lies with the committee and selectors.

The BCCI Secretary also clarified that the committee and selectors give careful consideration to every decision of the team. The opinion of society or media may be important, but the final decision is always taken on the basis of their expertise and dedication.
