New Zealand were looking all set to post 200-plus total when the two openers added 100 runs for the first wicket in 8.2 overs. They suffered a batting collapse in the middle overs but Daryl Mitchell’s hitting in the death overs took the score to 215/7 in the allotted 20 overs. Tim Seifert was sensational with the bat, scoring 62 runs off 36 balls, with the help of 7 fours and 3 sixes.

On the other hand, his partner Devon Conway, who recorded three consecutive failures, returned to form, amassing 44 runs at a strike rate of 191.30. He faced 23 balls and hit 4 boundaries and three maximums. However, their dismissals put the Kiwis on the backfoot, with Rachin Ravindra registering 2 runs off 4 balls.

Glenn Phillips, the in-form New Zealand, took 16 balls to post 24, including 3 fours and 1 six, but Kuldeep Yadav sent him back. Mark Chapman (9 off 8) and Mitchell Santner (11 off 6) disappointed with the bat.

It was Mitchell, whose quickfire 18-ball 39, added some respectability to the total. He smashed 3 sixes and 2 fours. The right-handed batter was helped by Zak Foulkes (13 off 6) and Matt Henry (6 off 3).

Kuldeep Yadav bowled four overs and took 2 wickets after conceding 39 runs. Ravi Bishnoi was expensive, giving away 49 runs from his four overs. Although he got rid of one batter, the rivals went after him. Arshdeep Singh ( 2 wickets) and Jasprit Bumrah (1 wicket) also troubled the willow holders.
