The UP Warriorz have named Amy Jones as a replacement for the injured Phoebe Litchfield for the rest of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026. The details of Litchfield's exact injury are unknown, but the injury is severe enough to rule her out of the ongoing tournament. She had scored 243 runs across six innings for the Uttar Pradesh-based franchise but will now be heading back home.
While the outgoing of Litchfield does come as a setback to the Warriorz, it is the injury replacement in Jones that has made amends for the loss. Jones boasts a plethora of experience in playing international and franchise-based T20 cricket around the world.
Playing for England Women, Jones has scored 1666 runs in 125 T20Is and also provides an excellent option as a wicketkeeper.Jones, who went unsold in the WPL 2026 Auction, has joined the UP Warriorz for INR 50 lakh and is expected to take the field during their two remaining league stage matches. They will first take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, whom they play on January 29 at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara. For the last match of the league stage, the Warriorz will be up against the Jemimah Rodrigues-led Delhi Capitals.
For the unversed, the Warriorz are in a spot of bother as far as their qualification for the playoffs is concerned. They are languishing at the bottom of the table after managing to secure only two wins in six encounters. Winning both their upcoming games by a handsome margin is the only way that the Meg Lanning-led side will have a chance to see themselves through.
Only two spots are up for grabs as the race for the playoffs has intensified. The first-placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru have already qualified for the playoffs, which means only two out of the next four teams will eventually make the final cut in the top three.
The journey for UP Warriorz seems the most difficult, though. UP Warriorz updated squad:Shweta Sehrawat, Deepti Sharma, Sophie Ecclestone, Meg Lanning (captain), Kiran Navgire, Harleen Deol, Kranti Goud, Asha Sobhana, Deandra Dottin, Shikha Pandey, Shipra Giri, Simran Shaikh, Tara Norris, Chloe Tryon, Suman Meena, G Trisha, Pratika Rawal, and Amy Jones
