England won the ODI series by a margin of 2-1 after defeating Sri Lanka by 53 runs in the third and final ODI on January 27. Chasing 358, the hosts were dismissed for 304 in 46.4 overs despite the best effort of Pavan Rathnayake, who scored 121 runs off 115 balls, laced with 12 fours and 1 six. Pathum Nissanka’s 25-ball fifty gave Sri Lanka a good start, and he added 48 runs with Kamil Mishara in 5.1 overs. Nissanka hit 5 boundaries and 3 sixes, but his dismissal allowed the visitors to stage a comeback. Several Lankan batters entered the 20-run mark, but the rival bowlers undid them.
Adil Rashid, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson and Jamie Overton took two wickets each.
Earlier, Harry Brook and Joe Root smashed centuries to take the score to 357/3. Skipper Brook remained unbeaten on 136 runs off 66 deliveries, packed with 11 fours and 9 sixes. Root posted 111 not out in 108 balls, with the help of 9 fours and 1 six.
Jacob Bethell’s 65 runs came in 72 balls, laced with 8 boundaries.
England 357 for 3 (Brook 136, Root 111, Bethell 65) beat Sri Lanka 304 (Pavan Rathnayake 121, Pathum Nissanka 50, Liam Dawson 2 wickets) by 53 runs.
Root and Bethell added 126 runs for the third wicket, and then Root stitched a stand of 191 with Brook, which put England in firm control and Sri Lanka out of the game.
Harry Brook was named the Player of the Match for scoring 136 not out.
England have won the series 2-1.
