Delhi: In the title match of SA20 League 2026, South Africa’s young batsman Dewald Brevis caught the attention of the cricket world with his brilliant performance. By scoring 101 runs in 56 balls, he made an important contribution in taking his team’s score to 158 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. In a stressful match like the final, this inning proved to be very decisive for the team.
Brewis adopted an aggressive style in the final and scored runs at a strike rate of more than 180. His innings included 8 fours and 7 long sixes. His attractive shots all around the field kept the opposition bowlers under constant pressure.
When Brewis came to bat, the situation of Pretoria Capitals was very critical. The team had lost its two wickets for just 1 run in just 1.1 overs. In such difficult times, he handled the innings with a brace of deliveries and completed 50 runs in just 26 balls. This half-century included 6 fours and 3 sixes.
Amidst the continuous falling of wickets, Brewis held one end and continued batting aggressively. He completed his century in 53 balls, which is considered an extraordinary achievement in any final match. This innings was a great example of patience, aggression and understanding of the match.
With this century innings, Dewald Brevis made a new world record in his name. He became the youngest batsman to score a century in any final of Franchise League cricket. He achieved this feat at the age of 22 years and 271 days.
This innings of Brevis also left behind a big record made in the year 2018. Earlier, in the final of the Big Bash League (BBL), Jack Weatherald had scored a century at the age of 23 years and 92 days. Brewis created history by doing this feat at an even younger age.
Baby AB’s performance throughout the SA20 season was praiseworthy. He scored 370 runs in 11 innings of 12 matches, which included one century and two half-centuries. His average was more than 41 and strike rate was above 156. He remained second after Quinton de Kock in the list of batsmen scoring the most runs this season.
Brevis had also proved his usefulness in the first qualifier played before the final. He made an important contribution in taking the team to the final by scoring unbeaten 75 runs in 38 balls. His performance throughout the tournament became a strong foundation for the team’s success.
